Festival of the Sun
Winter Solstice
The Inti Raymi or Sun Festival was the biggest, most important, spectacular and magnificent festival held in pre-hispanic times. Its purpose was to worship the "Apu Inti", the Sun God. The festival was performed every year on June 21, the
winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, in the great city of Cusco's Main Plaza. Today the Inti Raymi is staged annually in Saqsaywaman, on the day of Saint John, June 24th.
Our 11 Day journey June 2007 is timed to coincide with Inti Raymi, the greatest of all Inca festivals.
